YOUTH GUIDANCE MENTORING ACADEMY DELIVERS CARE PACKAGES TO ITS CHILDREN DURING THE PANDEMIC

Friday, May 1, 2020

"You could see the kids’ faces light up immediately when they saw our van. A lot of them ran out to meet us – they were so excited!” said Youth Guidance Mentoring Academy Executive Director Phil Barnes. “We wanted to do something to let our kids know that we are still in their corner, and I definitely think we accomplished that today.”
Youth Guidance Mentoring Academy provides one-on-one and group mentoring programs to more than 300 children a year from low-income families living in Indian River County. The organization will continue assembling care packages to help even more children, and it is seeking assistance from the local community to do so.
“With a donation of $10, anyone can provide a care package for one of our Youth Guidance students,” Barnes said. “Already, we’ve seen the local community step forward to help us accomplish our goal of delivering packages to all the children we serve.”

The Youth Guidance Board of Directors was so impressed by the amount of donations made by the community, that they decided to match the next $450 donated for the care packages.
