Our Story

Founded in 1973, Youth Guidance is a private, not-for-profit corporation operating under a 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Youth Guidance depends on the financial support of the Indian River community, a combination of funding from private donors and foundations, United Way and in kind donations from the County.
Youth Guidance is a community-based mentoring program.  The centerpiece of our effort is the mentoring relationship between adult and child.
We deeply believe – and experience has shown us – that a meaningful mentoring relationship has the potential in changing a child’s life. It is the goal and result of all of the programs, events, activities and other opportunities we provide to these underprivileged children.
Our Programs
Through specialized one-on-one and group mentoring programs, we prepare our young people to overcome life’s challenges and become successful adults. Programs occur after school and during the summer, and they are completely free for our families! Children are provided with a nutritious meal before programs.
Activities include:
  • Cooking, sewing, bike repair, and the trades
  • 3D printing and S.T.E.A.M.
  • Tutoring and Literacy
  • Field Trips and Sports
Our focus is on teaching children life skills, interpersonal, communication and job skills.
We teach our young children to rise above their current economic status by preparing them to become thriving and contributing members to our rapidly changing economy.
